BILLING CHANGE NOTICE
Jamestown Sanitary District will not send a monthly bill in July 2026 because those charges will be included in the total annual amount that will be on your next county property tax assessment. An annual statement will be provided by JSD with the total annual assessment amount by end of July.
MONTHLY PROCESSING END: We will continue accepting payments for June 2026 charges and any outstanding balances with our current processing center options until July 10, 2026.
AUTO-PAY CANCELLATION: If you have bill pay set up with your bank to automatically pay your monthly bill to Jamestown Sanitary District you will need to contact your bank to stop the payments.
DELINQUENT BALANCES: Outstanding account balances remaining after June 30, 2026 are late and therefore delinquent; however, payments will be accepted until July 10, 2026 to allow these charges to be paid before the transition. Delinquent charges will be placed on the upcoming property tax bill separate from the annual charge as a secured delinquency assessment.
CREDIT BALANCES: Any credit balances on customer accounts will be applied to the upcoming fiscal year sewer charges.
ANNUAL SEWER STATEMENT: The fiscal year runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Following the July 10 payment cutoff, sewer charges will be applied for the year in monthly detail, any credit balances will be credited, then annual statements will be prepared and mailed to customers.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Will this increase my sewer rate?
- No. While this change is happening at the same time as an already approved and scheduled rate increase this simply changes the collection method.
-
What if I pay my property taxes through an escrow account?
- Mortgage companies will automatically include this charge in the monthly escrow payment.
-
What if I don’t have a mortgage and therefore have no escrow account?
- The annual statement from JSD will provide the exact annual amount in advance, simply include this amount when budgeting for property taxes.
-
What happens if I don’t pay the sewer charge amount on my tax bill?
- Property taxes and special assessments are bundled together into a single, legally binding bill.
-
Can I pay in advance for the year so it doesn’t go on my tax bill?
- Yes. Payments received before July 10, 2026, will be credited toward your annual charges. If paid in full, this will eliminate the assessment on your upcoming property tax bill. Please note that this prepayment option is a one-time opportunity effective only for the current transition year; it will not be available in future years.
-
Why make this change?
- The processing center the District currently uses cost $38,000 last year in statement preparation, mailing and processing fees for credit card, debit card and check payments. These costs have increased by $2,000 annually, meaning this year’s cost will reach $40,000 and project to be $50,000 in 5 years. This transition will reduce costs, streamline operations and provide a more convenient, consolidated billing process for our property owners.
